I can only concur with the other reviews, Barwood Homes are definitely not 'Clever Property, Enhancing Lives' They use cheap materials and contractors who have absolutely no pride or responsibility in their work. We watched our Barwood Home being built and we could see the bad workmanship from the start, but thought things would improve, unfortunately not. There are a number of design flaws which any architect worth their salt should have rectified before the plans were approved. There has been a huge turn-over of staff on site resulting in no continuity and they cannot build to drawing.
As reported in other reviews the Management are appauling, they are not a building company but a bunch of people pretending to be who are just after your money. Please avoid if at all possible.

They are superbly designed houses but exceptionally badly built.
We are totally fed up of them and after well over a year we continue to suffer from blatant denials of responsibility for problems which can only be their making. The plumbing was appalling work with bad smells.
Barwood should not be in the business of building houses because they don't know how to do it.
The customer care department having a bad attitude, will go to extraordinary lengths as an attempt to make your life a misery and will try to get you to accept that it is pointless to raise snags.
It is understood that on the estate at Alderminster every roof has to be stripped and re-fixed due to bad workmanship with customers living in the houses.
We deeply regret buying our home from them, don't make the same mistake.
Highly unrecommended

Barwood Homes are an absolute joke. Completion date was originally Jan 2018, moved in in March 2019. No compensation for delays - They don’t do compensation. Managed to get interest for every day late after long stop date. Then after move in I was lucky not too my snags - but workmanship really poor. And customer care team are just a joke. Had to raise several formal complaints to get stuff done. Have had a fault door for most of the time - been locked out a few times, they have only just agreed to replace the door. Houses look beautiful but quality Up close is not good and service is shocking. Don’t not buy from Barwood Homes

STAY AWAY from this developer!
Marketing themselves as striving for quality and attention to detail.
Couldn't be further from the truth. They have used poor quality contractors, cut corners and lie continuously.
What should have been our dream home has been and continues to be a living nightmare!
Serious issues with our roof, brickwork, mortar, electrics, plumbing.
This company will take your money and run, whilst laughing.
If anyone would like further details, please dont hesitate to get in touch.

Has anyone complained externally I.e to the warranty providers ? We are going to do this and take it further by writing to watchdog!
They are seriously cowboys- ran off with our money and won’t snag our house as it was the show home and therefore sold as seen. However they have left a mess by patching up walls in different colour and cutting bits of wallpaper which have been stuck on the walls- looks stupid and they think that’s “redecorating”. Also my dad has noticed structural defects already with the brickwork and they aren’t willing to do anything about it!!
If they don’t get their act together we will seriously take it to the press. I haven’t yet seen a good review for barwood so it’s definitely in our favour.

After being in our property for nearly a year now I would 100% never buy from Barwood again and would say don’t do it , they just don’t care we have had so so many things go wrong at our property and still going wrong we have had tiles replaced with totally different shades and there just not interested with our complaint. We’ve had leaks sinks coming off walls , stair case dropping , no insulation in the loft , movement in our showers ,lead and slates missing from the roof , towel rails coming away from the walls , pump on boiler, lots of cracks in plaster work , down pipes coming away from walls , garage door needed replacing , rain water coming into garage , alarm box coming away from wall , drive way sinking , pointing missing , extractor vents not connected, utility room extractor burnt out, the day we moved in we couldn’t lock our doors for two days I could go on and on as well as trying to get the grass replaced that was dead

What a horrible experience this has been. I agreed a sale on a stock plot, which needed a lot of re-work. After 4 weeks, nothing. After raising my concerns they would not let me view the property but insisted I exchange contracts. They failed to address all my concerns, passed a sign off as fit for sale. My 22 year old house is in better condition. I raised my concerns to the Directors who are not leaders, brand focused or even care, they did not even have the curtesy to acknowledge my emails. I am now liable for all legal costs and have no house to move to. Gutted.

Promise after promise is broken I should have moved into my house in January 19 still waiting. Next target of April missed and again by the end of May which looks like it will be missed again. I've had to move out of my house other wise I would have lost my buyers as they had already waited 5 months for Barwood to get their act together. Barwood know that we are homeless now but just cant quite get themselves organised enough to finish my house when they said they would on the third attempt.

Having purchased 5 new build homes in the past 5 years from different builders, Barwood Homes is by far the worst to deal with and for poor quality. It was many months late and the quality was terrible. After 2 years, there are still many major deficiencies outstanding. I would NEVER buy a Barwood home again - a terrible experience.

1 year on after exchange of contracts and there is still no real idea of completion. Building delays can only be put down to bad management, certainly not bad weather. Getting information from Barwood management is like getting blood out of a stone.

We initially looked at all the local new build houses around Banbury and finally decided that we would go with Barwood Homes. In April 2016 we reserved a property and were told that completion was expected around May/June as there were only 10 properties and were all started. June went by and were then told July. This also went by and eventually told definitely end of September only for the usual excuses to be then told most definitely 23rd of November.
We then had a meeting with a director to be given more excuses and told absolutely 31st January.
It got to the 30th and still no confirmation from Barwood except their solicitor confirming that it would be ready. However after a site inspection it was discovered that the property was in no condition to move in with still more work to be completed.
We have been told that it will be ready 2nd February but are still waiting for confirmation that we can in fact move on any specific date.
I must add that in almost the year that this has taken we have dealt with at least 9 different sales personnel and 5 different site managers.
The lack of communication and updates from the sales team is extremely frustrating and to say a lot of the new staff come from Persimmon and other large building companies bringing their ideas of customer service.
However despite this we are looking forward to moving into the house eventually.

You could buy a new car and not put up with anything like this, no car ever leaves the show room until its perfect.
Add a commentI agree entirely with John. You must not get yourself into trouble by buying a house from this bunch. After hearing from a workman who doesn't like them I drove over to Alderminster to find that what he told me is absolutely true. Every roof on the estate has to be replaced while people are living in the houses. If you want a new house find a developer with a sound reputation.
Add a commentYes this is absolutely true on The Old Stour development at Alderminster. Every house built with a roof that didn’t comply with building regulations. Every house to be scaffolded and every tile removed and nailed down correctly. The roof edges to be clipped both sides. Customer care tried to fob us off by telling us they only clipped the side of the roof with a prevailing wind. This is the stuff of nightmares. Barwood are disgusting.
Add a commentHi Jane,
Add a commentIt is appalling what is going on. Heaven knows where Barwood have got the "good" reviews from on Trustpilot recently - when you buy a house you are buying much more than a bunch of flowers and a smiling sales reps face. I've looked at The Old Stour at Alderminster and it is shocking what buyers there are going through. How do we communicate and maybe bring the press in ?
