A terrible and uncaring company. I am only just able to move into my new build house after getting the key over 12 months ago in April 2023. The reason we could not move in was due to a major plaster beetle infestation which started just as we were about to get the flooring put down 3 weeks after getting the key ready to move in.
During the process of preparing for the flooring we experienced these awful bugs which we researched and found them to be plaster beetles. We discovered excessive damp and mould behind skirting boards, kitchen units and architraves etc. The company blamed us for not moving in on day one and said all this was because the house had not been commissioned. It is the 4th new build we have owned so we are not new to the process. We had no major problems with the previous 3 new builds.
We have been blamed for all the problems that we have experienced even though Applethwaite Homes did pay for heat treatment to eradicate the beetle situation. The heat treatment did not get rid of the mould though and they did not help at all with that. Even their own contractors said how awful the smell of damp was in our new house, it was embarrassing. Thankfully NHBC helped and honoured our claim and the work has now been completed but no thanks to the developer.
I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. Absolutely spoilt the whole experience of buying a new house and we are over £18000 in debt now with it all! Not to mention the stress it has caused especially being blamed for their bad workmanship. Reports proved we were not to blame and it was the wet cavity insulation that they and left us with that most likely caused all the issues.

Hi Diane

We’ve just reserved a property in Davy Fields. Any chance we could discuss more?

Awful experience. Put £1000 reservation on a property. Subsequently noticed rendering peeling, whilst also pitted at one side of property. Tried to contact Applethwaites over a 2 week period with no response. Visited the site to see Site Manager. Asked if he'd received my email. He said it takes days to come through! Answered my questions positively but umonvincingly. Meanwhile nothing happening with rendering. Emailed MD, Colin Hetherington expressing my concerns. Received an arrogant, bullying reply, telling me I could visit 2 weeks later to see the remedied rendering, exchange contracts the same day and complete. This was after I had said I wouldn't be instructing solicitors until I had seen the rendering remedied. In addition, when I first visited the property I noticed a dent in the floor of a bedroom and a crack round the doorframe. Pointed these out and was told I'd have 72 hours from moving in to report any snags. Looked in window at a later date. Carpets down without levelling dent in floor meaning a dip is evident. Crack round door still there. Why put a carpet down covering the dent rather than fix it first? Why attach a pipe to a rendered wall where there is clearly a problem? How many more snags would I find after moving in? Definite lack of care and attention. Lost confidence in the Company. Shame because the properties look very attractive but, I decided the risks of being let down outweighed the benefits and i withdrew from the purchase.

Customer services should be highlighted as an extra purchase cost because you will need legal funds to get the aftersales services. Applethwaits/ericwrights blame everyone else for faults and have removed reviews options from their web site. Obviously why.

If you're complaining about this horrible company why have you given them 5 stars? You're making them look better than they actually are.

We own a Applethwaites home. 2 NHBC claims within the 2 year builders warranty and thousands out of pocket. Applethwaite homes not only ignore the NHBC they even have the audacity to blame them for they're own (Applethwaites) appalling quality. It certainly isn't the NHBC's responsibility to ensure the final quality and safety of our homes! That is the house builders responsibility!
A hideous, arrogant and lazy and unapologetic company that thinks it's not responsible for the work it sells. Construction teams that can do what they want including justifying their poor workmanship by abusing you in your own home.
Dealing with it's aftersales team is like dealing with a sulking child having a tantrum. They even have a knack of giving you the impression they're somehow doing you a favour repairing the things that should have been right in the first place or the impression they give if you have to complain about their poor standards. If you don't like people complaining then just do a good job! It's that easy.
We were moved in late to a dirty ,dangerous, damaged house and the experience just got worse from there onward
Similar problems with render falling off and so so much more. This dire company should be avoided if you want to by a new home or value your mental health! This company apparently sells quality houses. They don't! and it's cost us 315k to find out how bad they really are.
Every single review they've had from home owners have been 1 star. So bad they and The Eric Wright group have removed company info and review options from both Facebook and Google. Rather hide how they treat people rather than do a decent job.
Nobody on the estate where i live has a good word to say about them because large numbers of residents are having or had problems due to poor quality . These houses could have been fantastic but they were built by company thats's brought a commercial construction attitude to the retail market, Bang them up and bog off!
I can only give anyone looking at one of their houses a recommendation based on my experience:-
The Applethwaite experience is depressing. I have considered at my lowest ebb to just walk away. Fortunately I didn't. Please don't put yourself in that position and buy a house from a company that cares and takes responsibility. because Applethwaite homes don't!

Terrible. Had a year's worth of headaches with them as have many others on our estate. The look of the house is a veneer and they rush things, ended up with cracks, rendering falling off, damp, leaks and all they do is give you the run-around and excuses.
